We often hear about boundaries as rules or limits — the invisible lines we draw so others know how far they can go. But in practice, boundaries are not about keeping people out. They are about keeping yourself whole.
When you don’t know where you end and someone else begins, it becomes easy to overgive, to say yes when you mean no, or to carry emotions and responsibilities that were never yours in the first place. Over time, that erodes not only your energy but also your sense of self.
Boundaries are not walls. They are doorways. They tell others: This is how I can meet you while still honoring myself.
Consent flows from the same principle. True consent is not just about saying yes or no in a moment — it’s about feeling safe enough to mean it. It requires clarity, presence, and the ability to connect with your own needs. Without that, “yes” becomes performance, and “no” feels like rejection.
And this is where personal power enters. Real power is not about dominance or control; it’s about ownership. It’s the ability to stand in your truth, communicate it, and allow others to do the same. Power without boundaries becomes chaos. Boundaries without power become brittle rules no one respects.

- “It’s selfish to put myself first.”
